SMC Cross Country Proves Dominance at Region 10 Championships
The Pioneers have been improving rapidly this season and the 2023 Region 10 Championships were no exception. The day started with the men’s race being controlled from the gun by the Pioneers. The men placed their entire roster within the top 11 spots in the meet including the top 3 overall finishers. The men had the entire scoring 5 finish with All-Region Honors, and 6 of the 7 men finished with new personal bests. This led to the fastest men’s team average at the Region 10 Championships since 2018. 6 of the 7 finishers are also freshman meaning this young squad is ready to continue it’s growth as the program transitions to 4 year.
The women did not disappoint as they came out and had the NJCAA Region 10 Division 1 runner of the year, and placed 6 ladies in the top 10 at the meet. 4 women walked away with All Region 10 honors, and the scored just 19 points in route to their second straight team championship (fewest since 2017). The women walked away with 4 personal bests and their fastest women’s team average since 2019.
First year head coach Peyton Shelton claimed both Men’s and Women’s Region 10 Coach of the Year honors.
