Pioneers Win 3-2 Over Richard Bland

Pioneers Win 3-2 Over Richard Bland

The men’s soccer team traveled to Richard Bland College for a Region 10 match on 9/18.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle with both teams getting on the scoreboard twice. Richard Bland scored first in the 5th minute on a SMC own goal. The Pioneers quickly answered a minute later when Youkendjy Pacius scored on from a defender deflection.  The Statesmen would take back the lead on a defensive breakdown by the Pioneers. SMC got level at 2-2 right before halftime when Raquan Bryant scored from a Pacius through ball.

The Pioneers found the lead 8 minutes into the second half after James Sharpe made a pass over the RBC defense to Pacius. The final 30 minutes of the game came with many opportunities for the statesmen to tie the game. Richard Bland would get a quality chance, but Braylen Reeves made a goal-line save to keep the lead. The Pioneer defense would stand tall in the final seconds of the game to secure the victory.

Franchesco Molinar would finish with 6 saves.

SMC has gotten back to .500 on the season and the men's team will travel to Denmark Tech on 9/21 at 330.
