Indoor Season Wraps for Track & Field

The Pioneers returned to Winston-Salem, North Carolina this weekend ready to close out the indoor season.

Standout performances started in the women’s 800 meter’s when sophomore Alondra Velazquez took the lead late in her heat to post the new 6^th fastest time in school history. Not to be outdone, Mariela Velazquez also improved on her season’s best to take the 7^th fastest time in school history. In the next heat, freshman Averi Vance led from the wire to take 11 seconds off her season’s best and climb up to 9^th on the SMC top 10 all-time list.

In the men’s 200 meter dash, freshman Romeo Brown would place 3^rd overall with his second fastest time of the season, once again posting a top 50 time in the NJCAA. Malik Job saw steady improvement in the 200 meter dash, re-writing his season’s best by six tenths of a second.

In the mile, Sophia Outhous jumped into the top 10 in SMC history in her 4^th event of the indoor season. She would negative split the race with a huge second half to run the #60 time in the NJCAA this season. A personal best of 5:38.95 cements Sophia at the 3^rd fastest miler in SMC history. Luke Kochanowicz got another shot at the mile himself and he did not let this one go, Posting a new lifetime best and the 7^th fastest time in school history!

SMC closed the day with a pair of 4x400m Relay’s where the women’s team took home 3^rd place in the meet with the 3^rd fastest time in school history. The men’s team took 5^th at the meet with the #40 time in the NJCAA this season and 4^th fastest in school history.

Pioneers are back in action on March 2^nd, at Southern Wesleyan University to open the outdoor track and field season.
