Men's Cross Country brings home runner-up finish in Region X Championship

LOUISBURG, NC., The Men's and Women's Cross Country teams spent Saturday morning in Louisburg, NC competing in the 2015 Region X Cross Country Championship. The Pioneers competed against three teams from across the region; Louisburg College, Patrick Henry Community College, and Wake Tech Community College.

SMC men's team had a big day with their performances although they fell short of the first place spot secured by Louisburg College. Anthony Galvan clocked in a 25:45 for a top 10 Regional X individual finish. Finishing just outside the top 10 but posting individual best times was; Kole Koterba - 26:17, Glenn Daniels - 26:41, Kelvin Rosemond - 26:54, and Orlando Brown - 27:31. Team members Cameron Morgan, Rory Hayes, and Marc Alvarado all three broke the 28 minute mark in the race.

Heidi McNeil once again lead the way for the Lady Pioneers with a 5k time of 19:20. She finished in fourth place overall. Alicia Sanchez grabbed the seventh place spot with a 20:41 finishing time. Haley Singletary finished with a 21:13 time and secured that all three Lady Pioneers would finish with a top 10 Region X individual finish.

The men's team is hoping for a national qualifying bid for their performance on Saturday.
