SMC qualifies 5 wrestlers to NE District II Championship.
NJCAA National Qualifying Event the North Eastern District II Tournament hosted by Rowan College at Gloucester County, in New Jersey, is coming up this Saturday, February 11th at 10:00am. The Spartanburg Methodist College Wrestling Team qualifies 5 wrestlers to the tournament: 133lbs Marvin Galette, 141lbs Aaron Fountain, 149lbs Christopher Moungle Jr, 157lbs Cole Mangum, and 184lbs Evan Makupson.
133lber Marvin Galette, sophomore, from Rock Hill, South Carolina is currently 23-7 on the year with a collegiate career record of 40-26 record. Marvin is a Star City Open Champion, placing 5th at the Pembroke Classic Tournament and 4th at the NCCC Thunderwolves Open. Marvin is currently on an 8 match win streak, scoring 13 match wins by bonus points.
141lber Aaron Fountain, Redshirt freshman, from Live Oak, Florida holds a 14-9 record this year. He is also a Star City Open champion as well as the NCCC Thunderwolves Open runner-up. Aaron also placed 4th at the Pembroke Classic Tournament.
149lber Christopher Moungle Jr, a freshman from Charlotte, North Carolina has a record of 20-7 and is currently the #5 ranked 149lber in NJCAA. Chris is a NCCC Thunderwolves Open champion. Chris has placed in 3 other tournaments this year: 5th at Pembroke Classic, 2nd at Georgia Collegiate Open and 3rd at the Star City Open. Chris also undefeated against junior college opponents (6-0)
157lber Cole Mangum is a Redshirt Freshman from Boiling Springs, South Carolina. Cole has a record of 14-9. Cole was ranked as high as #8 in the NJCAA. He was a runner-up at Thunderwolves Open, losing to returning NJCAA All-American Cody McGregor (Niagara) 6-2. Cole moved up a weight class and matched up against former NJCAA national runner-up Daquon Wilson in a dual meet against Limestone College, where he lost a back and forth battle to an 11-10 decision. He is 5-2 against junior college competition.
184lber Evan Makupson is a freshman from Thomasville, North Carolina. He stands at 14-9 on the year. Evan has placed at 4 different tournaments this year: 4th Pembroke Classic, 5th at Georgia Collegiate Open & NCCC Thunderwolves Open. Evan is a Star City Open champion.
70% of the total number of participants from the NE District II will qualify for the NJCAA National Wrestling Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa on February 24-25
