Pioneers Fall to Lancaster, SMC Still Takes 1st Seed To Tournament

The Lady Pioneers traveled to Lancaster, South Carolina to take on Region 10 opponent USC Lancaster. The game started with both teams feeling each other out to make their first strike. SMC would have a couple of chances from Beyonce Williams early in the game but could not find the back of the net. Lancaster would break the ice first on a header-off corner kick in the 21st minute. The Pioneers would knock on the door but could not answer in the first half. Spartanburg Methodist would regroup at the half and look to even the score. Beyonce was able to tie the score 15 minutes into the second half off a Myleigh Shaw pass up the sideline. The Pioneers would keep the pressure on and get the go-ahead goal in the 70th minute when Laura Giraldo found a streaking Williams through the Lancer's defense. Lancaster didn't collapse. USC L would turn up the pressure and tie the game back up 8 minutes left in the game. The game would go into golden goal overtime where Lancaster would use the momentum to get the winning goal on a fast break 6 minutes into the first overtime period. Gwen Orr would have 7 saves in net for the Pioneers. Both teams split the head-to-head match-up during the regular season with the Pioneers winning the tiebreaker.

SMC will take the number 1 seed going into the Region 10 tournament. They will host the number 4 seed on Oct. 29 at 10:00 am. The winner will play on Oct. 30 at 2:00 pm.

SMC finishes the regular season at 9-4.
