 SPARTANBURG, SC.,

Spartanburg Methodist College Men's and Women's cross country team opened its season Saturday at the Eye Opener Invitational located in Spartanburg, SC. Both Men's and Women's team placed sixth placed among Non-Division I teams.

On the Men's team, Kole Koterba lead the way for the Pioneers with a 29th place finish with a time of 28:38 in the men's 8k.  The second finisher for SMC was Anthony Galvan with a time of 29:14 finishing 32nd overall.  Rounding out the score for SMC was Christian Parker, Kelvin Rosemond, and Marc Alvarado.

On the women's side, Heidi McNeil showed the girl's team the way with a 21th place finish with a time of 21:16.  Both Alicia Sanchez and Sarah Davis were able to string a good finish for the Pioneers as they finished 45th and 46th, respectfully.

Overall it was a good day for the Pioneers.  The most important objective was to gain some needed race experience.  "We look forward to setting our marks after today's race and moving forward".

Next up for the Pioneers Cross Country team is the Brevard College XC Classic on September 25th.
