LOUISBURG, NC., Spartanburg Methodist baseball qualified for the NJCAA Eastern Regional by sweeping a Sunday doubleheader at Louisburg and winning the Region 10 regular season.
The Pioneers (40-16, 20-8) won by scores of 9-3 and 12-5. They will play in the region tournament on May 7-11 in Kinston, N.C., but with a spot already guaranteed in the district finals, which will be held at the winner of Region 20 (Maryland/Virginia). From there, the winner will go to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
Ridge Chapman was the winning pitcher in the first game. Chris Burgess was 3-for-3, while Tyler Lancaster and Oliver Hill each had two hits. Kevon Perkins went 4-for-5 in the second game, while Jared McKay and Dom Jackson each had two hits. Lucas Coan was the winning pitcher.
The Pioneers split Saturday's doubleheader with Louisburg College, 9-8 and 11-5, to move to 38-16 on the season and 18-8 in the region. SMC fell short of a 7th inning comeback leaving the tying run on second in the first game. The Pioneers bounced back in the second game with Brent Burgess leading the sticks with two home runs in the game.
