Spartanburg Methodist College and USC Salkehatchie Battle to a 1-1 Draw

Spartanburg Methodist College and USC Salkehatchie Battle to a 1-1 Draw

September 23, 2023 - Spartanburg, SC

After a demoralizing defeat against Denmark Tech the previous day, the Pioneers were eager to bounce back and put on a strong performance. Despite the disappointment of the previous match, the team regrouped and fought tenaciously against USC Salkehatchie.

In the 62nd minute, SMC took the lead with a goal from Ronnie Mendez, assisted by Julio Quintero. Mendez showcased his goal-scoring prowess with a powerful strike that left the opposition goalkeeper with no chance of stopping it. The crowd erupted with excitement as SMC took the lead.

However, USC Salkehatchie didn't back down and fought hard to level the score. In the 80th minute, their efforts paid off as they found the back of the net, equalizing the game.

Both teams continued to battle vigorously throughout the rest of the match. The game was marked by intense defense, skilled midfield play, and multiple scoring opportunities for both sides. However, neither team managed to break the deadlock, resulting in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Ronnie Mendez's goal, assisted by Julio Quintero, showcased the attacking prowess of the SMC team. Their combination play and clinical finishing were commendable and demonstrated their ability to create scoring chances. Sab Sandor was also a key contributor to SMC's attack, proving himself as a valuable asset to the team. Sab had a wonder strike against Denmark tech and was involved in the build up to the goal against USC Salkehatchie.

The draw against USC Salkehatchie provided a valuable learning opportunity for the Pioneer's squad. After a narrow defeat against Denmark Tech the day prior, this match allowed them to regroup and refocus on their strengths. Moving forward, the Pioneers will undoubtedly build on this result and continue to work towards improving their performance on the field.

Looking ahead, SMC will face their crosstown rivals, USC Union, on Tuesday, September 26th, at Nash Field. This upcoming match presents a chance for the Pioneers to showcase their skills and bounce back from recent setbacks. The team's determination and resilience will be put to the test, as they aim to secure a victory against their local rivals.

As the season progresses, the SMC men's soccer team remains focused on their goals and determined to make their mark on the field. They will use this draw as a stepping stone towards achieving success in future matches.
