Pioneers Open Season at App State Cover Bridge Open
Boone, N.C. – SMC Men and Women's team competed in the App State Covered Bride Open Friday evening in Boone, N.C.. Freshman Madison Chesney lead the pioneer women with a career PR performance of 20:36 in the 5k event placing 67th of 95 finishers. Freshman Morgan Kitts finished with a strong start of the season with 21:36 for the 5k event.
On the men's side, freshman Logan Easterlin also had a great performance of 28:10 in the 8k event to open with collegiate cross country career. Shawn Hamilton was the 2nd place finisher for the men's team at 29:11 to open his first 8k event.

Post-meet Thoughts
"Glad to get the season started. I really enjoy running this event due to caliber of teams that compete in the Cover Bridge Open. We typically have a young team and it is great to introduce the athletes to the effort it takes to compete collegiately. The team did a great job today and I could not be more pleased with the effort. We had a plan going into this race with race paces and the output was near perfect." Coach Ken Roach
