Softball Starts Season with 3 Wins
The lady pioneer softball team has started strong with a 3-1 record so far, facing Surry CC and Montreat College.
In the first serious of games against Surry CC the ladies started strong scoring a run in their first at bat. Surry CC came back in the 2nd and 3rd inning scoring a total of three runs until SMC came back in the 5th to score five runs with a two run Homerun by Elizabeth Josey, 2 RBI's by Alysssa Pennington, and another RBI by Whittney Purdy.
The lady pionners won that game 6-3

Sophomore Elizabeth Josey - 1 for 3 with a 2 run Homerun
Next game against Surry didnt go as smooth as game one. Both teams came out in the 2nd inning scoring two runs due to errors but Surry's bats kept going full force scoring 6 more runs in the 5th and 6th inning. Three out of the four runs SMC scored were by Shaan Delport as she started her college deput with two homeruns. Kaleigh MacIntyre also went 2 for 2.

SMC showed improvement Tuesdays games against Montreat College winning both 3-1 and 4-3. It was a pitchers duel with SMC pitcher Charlsy Traylor as she only let up four hits in seven innings. Montreat led in the 3rd 1-0 until the lady pioneers loaded the bases and Freshman Alyssa Pennington had a base clearing double.

Game two against Montreat was just as exciting.
Going into the bottom of the 7th SMC was down 3-1 when Sophomore Dienna White doubled off the fence with bases loaded, scoring three runs. Sophomore Elizabeth Josey earned the win allowing only four hits and three runs while striking out three.
