SMC Softball Sees 2024 Season End in 3-0 Loss to Monroe College
Sumter, S.C. – The No. 4 seed Spartanburg Methodist softball team was limited to just one hit and surrendered a pair of unearned runs in a 3-0 loss to No. 3 seed Monroe College on Friday in a loser's bracket elimination game at the Region 10 Division I Softball Tournament.
Pioneers (11-24) starter Bailey Kiser allowed just two hits in three innings of work as the tough-luck loser. Kiser fanned five batters on the day before handing the ball over Maddie Handy, who allowed three hits and unearned run.
Jacie Ross spoiled the no-hitter bid with the lone hit for SMC with a single to lead off the seventh inning.
Monroe (25-27) starter Sarah Wall kept SMC in check with 12 strikeouts to raise her record to 13-12. Five-different Mustangs held a hit with Marissa Thalassinos recording the lone RBI in the win.
The loss ends the season for Spartanburg Methodist, who will make the transition to NAIA for the 2025 season.
