Lady Pioneers secure #1 seed with win over USC Lancaster

Lady Pioneers secure #1 seed with win over USC Lancaster

SMC Pioneers hosted the Lancers from USC Lancaster on Monday, October 16. Both teams knew that a number one seed was on the line in this game. Lancaster looked to put a little more pressure on the Pioneers early in the game. The Lancers got on the board first off a turnover from the SMC defense in the 28th minute. Camila Moscoso leveled the game at one in the 38th minute from Caitlin Lagos on a great pass through the midfield. At halftime, both teams made adjustments to find the go ahead goal. The Pioneers took the momentum from the first half goal and ultimately found the game winner 8 minutes into the second half from a Grace White shot over the keepers outstretched arms. Camden Brooks credited with the assist. Lancaster put a lot of pressure on the Pioneers late in the game to try to find the equalizer. Gwen Orr came up huge in the second half with a couple great one on one saves. She finished with 4 saves on the day. SMC moves to 8-3-2 and 4-0-1 in the region. They have clinched the #1 seed in the region tournament and will host the Region Championship game on Oct. 28 at 3:00pm.
