The Lady Pioneers bring back 2 Wins from Georgia

The Lady Pioneers bring back 2 Wins from Georgia

The Spartanburg Methodist Women’s Soccer team traveled to Milledgeville, Ga for 2 games against Georgia Military College and South Georgia State College. On Friday, the Pioneers took on the Bulldogs from GMC. It took SMC awhile to get their legs loosened up from the long bus ride. The Bulldogs would get on the board first in the 30th minute when the GMC forward would make some shifty moves to beat the SMC defense and goalkeeper. The Pioneers would get level with 12 seconds left in the half by CJ Hawkins. SMC would use the momentum and get the go ahead goal in the 52nd minute of the goal when Logan Harvin intercepted a defenders pass to the goalkeeper and put it into the back of the net. The Pioneers defense and Gwen Orr in goal would stand strong through the rest of the half. SMC would get an insurance goal when Camila Moscoso found the net after she beat a Bulldog defender and put the ball off the far post. Gwen ended the game with 10 saves. The Pioneers would rest up within 24hours to take on South Georgia State College on Saturday. Both teams had played games the previous day and took some time to get their tired legs going. The first half would end 0-0. The second half would see more of the same back and forth action until the 65th when Moscoso would find Hawkins at the top the penalty box and Hawkins would but the ball in the upper left corner of the goal. Gwen and the Pioneers defense would stand strong again to preserve the shutout. Gwen ended the game with another 15 saves. The Pioneers move to 3-0-1 and return home on 9/7/2023 to take on nationally ranked Daytona State.
