Weekend Recap for the Lady Pioneers
The Lady Pioneers kicked off the season against the Sea Devils of Cape Fear Community College. SMC got on the board first when Caitlin Lagos scored on a Penalty Kick in the 7th minute of the game. The first half had a lot of back and forth action but Cape Fear would grab 2 goals to lead the game 2-1 at halftime. Both teams regrouped and tried to find momentum in the second half. There were many opportunities for both teams. The lady Pioneers tied the game when Camila Moscoso put the ball past a diving Sea Devil keeper in the 73rd minute. Lagos was on the assist. Gwen Orr stood tall in goal with 14 saves on the day. SMC takes a 0-0-1 record on the road next Saturday, 8.26.2023, when they travel to Atlanta Silverbacks stadium to take on #17 LSU Eunice.
