
Pioneers Complete Sweep of Morris
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Spartanburg Methodist College baseball team completed a sweep of Morris College with a 9-5 win at Mooneyham Field on Sunday.
With three hits, Jarian Pinckney led a 10-hit attack for the Pioneers. Leo Lopez and Justin Dawkins each added two hits to go along with three and two RBI, respectively.
Down 2-1 in the fourth inning, SMC regained the lead on a sacrifice fly by Eli Franz. Then, the Hornets plated three in the fifth for a 5-3 lead. Franz picked up another sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it a one-run game.
Down a run in the seventh, SMC scored three runs on just two hits. A one out sacrifice fly by Hunter Lancaster tied the game at 5. After a passed by the Hornets and the go-ahead run on third, Justin Dawkins singled in Chance Greene to put the home team back up. Lopez followed that up with a RBI single to put the Pioneers ahead 7-5.
Relievers Carson Matthews and Dylan Willis shut down the Hornets for the final four innings, scattering three hits and striking out seven. Matthews pitched the final two innings for the save. SMC starter Blake Exizian went four innings for his first win.
