Garden City, K.S.  – SMC Pioneer Morgan Kitts and Madsion Chesney earned the opportunity to represent SMC at the 2018 NJCAA National Cross Country Championship in Garden City, K.S. The event hosted a field of 300+ women athletes representing NJCAA colleges from all across the nation.   The womens race is marked over a hilly and robust 5000 kilometer course with weather conditions of moderate winds and chilly temperatures. Morgan Kitts ran a strong race finishing 183 position out of 293 runners. "High plains region in Kansas is an adjustment in a lot of different ways. Winds, altitudes, and environment was the adjustment." Said Morgan Kitts. Madison Chesney pressed through the finish with a solid run at the 125 position. The individual winner of the event ran 18.17 and took home the individual national title.

Post-meet Thoughts

"The course conditions were pretty tough today.  Both ladies had to battle every step due to the hilly conditions and extra soft footing.  I can't be more happy for both of their efforts, excitement, and energy today.  They represented SMC's XC program to their fullest extent and I am so excited they got to experience such great event.  The growth and maturity of this program relies on these types of efforts.  Hopefully this program will continue to show to other high school endurance student athletes through our actions just how good of a college home SMC can be for them.  Running in these events is a lifetime memory, resume booster, and can be a total life game changer for them."  says Head coach, Ken Roach.
