Down goes #1 Louisburg

Spartanburg, SC

The Lady Pioneers hosted the #1 ranked and defending D2 NJCAA National Champion Louisburg College Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon. Five minutes into the game it looked as if Louisburg(8-2) would easily take care of the Lady Pioneers as they jumped out to a 17-3 lead. After a timeout, the Pioneers found their grove and began to control the boards. SMC outscored the Canes 28-16 over the final fifteen minutes of the first half.

The Lady Pioneers(3-6) trailed 33-31 at the half but stormed out of the locker room and took a five point lead with thirteen minutes to play. Both teams traded baskets and leads throughout the second half but it was the Pioneers who held on for the big non-conference win.

SMC shot 15-24 from the free throw line while Louisburg hit only 7-18 free throws.

Katie Dyches lead the Pioneers with 16 points (3-4 3ptrs), Morgan Alexander (11 rebounds) and Tamornay Harris pitched in 11 points (4-6 fg), ten Pioneers scored in the contest.

SMC will travel to Lenoir Community College on Monday the 9th and return home to face Lenoir CC on December 18th.
