SMC Beats District Opponent Garrett College
Spartanburg, SC – The Pioneer wrestling team took on rival North East District II Team Garret College of Maryland in the Moore Gymnasium last Saturday, January 26th. SMC came away with the victory beating Garrett 35 -7, losing just two out of the ten matches. Big win of the night came from Brandon Harris, who came away with the victory despite bumping up a few more weight classes than normal. Brandon beat Christopher Estrada (Garrett College) by way of decision 9-4.
SMC Wrestling team celebrated its 15th year of a program at the match. Many alumni, past coaches, and fans were all in attendance of last Saturday's event, showing their support for the program. Afterwards, Pioneer Wrestling sponsored a gathering at the SMC Studio Space in downtown Spartanburg honoring the 15th successful year of a program. Alumni from all different years gathered around telling stories of past years, past wrestlers, and the success of the program and even the vision of the program for years to come. Head Coach, Matt Oliver, hopes to make this an annual event to celebrate the past present and future of the Spartanburg Methodist College Wrestling program.
