SMC Beach Battle Bears in the Wind

Spartanburg, SC.  The Spartanburg Methodist Women’s Beach Volleyball team played an early week match up against Bob Jones on Tuesday. Still waiting on the perfect outdoor weather for playing in the sand with temps in the low 40’s and Wind speeds topping out at 18 (mph) the Pioneers would still pull off some amazing play’s throughout the match up.

The first three match up would be the 3’s,4’s, and 5’s. The new pairs of Marrit Preusting / Callie Wzorek in the 5’s and Ashley Gagnon/ Racquel Talley in the 4’s would finish out almost identically with both splitting the match and dropping the third set 15-11. While the 3’s pair of Tayla Reini/ Joanna Barr would show their strength throughout the match only allowing their opponent to score 10 and 9 in the two set match.

With one win for the team going into the 1’s and 2’s match up the teams would rally around and fight to finish out.  The 1’s pair of Zuzanna Michalska / Delaney Castro would finish with consistent play at the net to close out both sets at 13.

The final pair to finish up would be Kendall Meinders / Aurora Aho moving back into the 2’s spot would come up short on both ends of the extra point sets.

The SMC Beach Pioneers will travel to Southern Pines, NC. this Friday (3/17) and Saturday (3/18) for the Sandhills Community College Flyer Invitational.  SMC will Kick out play again Bryant & Stratton College at 2:00 PM on Friday!
