SMC Beach Volleyball Loses Home Opener to Salem College, 3-2
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Playing on their home sand, the Spartanburg Methodist College beach volleyball team fell 3-2 to NCAA Division III Salem College on Friday.
Windy conditions challenged both teams throughout the match. Despite a shuffled lineup, the Pioneers adapted well. Their first win of the day came from the No. 2 team of Hana Vucinic and Layla VanAernem, who rallied from a set down to win 13-21, 21-18, 15-8. The third set was tightly contested until Vucinic and VanAernem seized control with a decisive 6-1 run to close out the match.
The Pioneers' second victory came from the No. 1 duo of Katherine James and Brantlie Price, who secured a straight-set win, 21-13, 21-19.
Next, Spartanburg Methodist will travel to the Suppa Malec Beach Volleyball Complex for the Ave Maria Invitational. Over two days, the Pioneers will face Sun Conference opponents Florida Memorial, St. Thomas (FL), and host Ave Maria.
