Running Pioneers Start their Seasons on the Right Foot

Running Pioneers Start their Seasons on the Right Foot

Catawba, N.C. – The Spartanburg Methodistance squads opened their seasons at the Fleet Feet Invitational hosted by Catawba College.

The men started off the day strong as they finished atop the other junior colleges besting Region rival and defending Region 10 champs, Louisburg! The run-NEERS were led by freshman Zander Allen with a time of 32:15 through 8K. A solid pack of three Pioneers shortly followed; Trey Armstrong, Bryce Strickland, and Aaron Wheat kept things close within the squad with only a twelve second gap.

“Our guys raced smart today. Their conservative race plans allowed them to move late and let the race come to them. It is a stride in the right direction and it will be interesting to see how we end up in November.”

The women took to the 5K course after the men’s race. Leading the ladies was returner Mikayla Wilson who finished with a time of 26:08, almost a minute faster than her time there last season. Following Mikayla were the Velazquez twins who got their first taste of college competition.

”Overall, our ladies did some good things out on the course. We still have a lot to learn but I am pleased with our first race of the season. I am excited to see them at the Converse Kickoff in a few weeks.

Next, the Pioneers take to Milliken Arboretum to compete at the Converse Kickoff on 9/17.
