Pioneer Softball sweep Region X awards
SPARTANBURG, SC., The Lady Pioneer Softball team rolled through the Region X regular season and tournament undefeated and also rolled through the post season awards this past weekend.
Sophomore infielder Maddy Labrador was named the Region X Player of the Year, Sophomore pitcher Bailey Pearson earned the Region X Pitcher of the Year, and head coach Thad Fox was selected as the Region X Coach of the Year. Labrador is the third consecutive Pioneer to win Player of the Year. Caroline Hill in 2015 and Hannah Knight in 2014. Carson O'Donald won Pitcher of the Year in 2015. Fox earned his fourth Coach of the Year award (2012, 2013, 2015, 2016)
Five other Pioneers earned Region X honors. Sophomore third baseman Kaleigh Busbee, freshman pitcher Kayla Price, Labrador, and Pearson were named to Region X first team while sophomore catcher Morgan Smith and sophomore first baseman Leslie Altman earned second team honors. Sophomore short stop Mary Hart was named as a honorable mention member.
