HICKORY, NC., The Lady Pioneer Volleyball team lost for the first time since August 29th on Tuesday at Catawba Valley CC. The Red Hawks have dominated Region X D2 volleyball for the past couple of seasons earning trips to the NJCAA National Championships. SMC, riding a seven match win streak looked to continue their winning ways on the road.
The Pioneers lost the first two sets 19-25 and 23-25 before evening the match by winning game three 26-24 and game four 25-18. Game five would go to the host team 12-15.
The Pioneers were led by Julia Panas - 13 kills, 27 digs, Courtney Williamson - 18 kills, 13 digs, Leslie Gonzalez - 16 kills, 18 digs, Deanna Unger - 56 assist, 10 digs, and Rachel Mabry - 30 digs, 1 service ace.
SMC will return to action on Thursday as they travel to USC Lancaster. The Pioneers won the first contest between the two teams 3-0 on August 25th.
