Pioneers Keep Winning Streak at Lancaster
The Spartanburg Methodist volleyball team continues to roll as they swept both opponents at the USC Lancaster Tri Match in Lancaster, SC over the weekend. The team took on Fayetteville Tech from NC, and host team USC Lancaster in back-to-back matches.
Fayetteville Tech
After a two-hour van trip, the Pioneers started off slow against the Trojans digging themselves in a 2-6 deficit. It was not until the pin tandem of Marrit Preusting and Zuzanna Michalska sparked some life into the offense and got the team rolling. Kendall Meinders and Tori Barr were blocking machines at the net. SMC rolled the second and third set with aggressive serving and minimal hitting errors.

Picking up where they left off, SMC started strong with an 8-1 lead against Lancaster. Powered behind the exceptional defense of Libero Delaney Castro, not much was hitting the floor on the Pioneer side. Blocking proved to be strong again for our right-side blockers as the continuously shut down their offense. With the addition of Racquel Talley in the lineup- she paced our right side attacking and collected a few solo blocks herself.
“Overall, it was a great trip with some tough opponents. I was not happy with the way our middles were being set as well as some defensive plays, so we will for sure be working on that during practice this week. We still tend to be our biggest enemy. We love to get in holes and dig ourselves out or let the other team chip away at our lead. On a brighter note, Zuzia, Mar, and Racquel had a good day, and I was very excited for them. Our blocking was fantastic which is very rewarding for our girls- they have been working so hard on that. I cannot wait to see what is next for this squad.”
The Pioneers are back home this weekend hosting the SMC Classic. USC Lancaster, Monroe College, and USC Sumter will be in attendance.
