Baseball Opened Region Play Winning

Game 1

SMC opened Region play by scoring in every inning of the 5 inning game (shortened due to 10 run rule) in route to a 14-4 win over USC-Union. 11 hits and 8 free passes created lots of opportunities that the Pioneers cashed in on.

Dariyan Pendergrass was 3-4 with 2 rbi and 3 stolen bases. Ethan Wilson also contributed a 3-4 effort which included his 3^rd HR. He drove in 4. Rhogue Wallace doubled and homered driving in 3 runs.

Trip Brown upped his record to 2-1

Game 2

The Pioneers jumped out early in Game 2 with 4 runs in the first and a single run in the second. They also added an insurance run in the 6^th.

Hunter Fryzowicz had a big day offensively going 3-3 with a double, HR and 3 rbi’s. Ryan Williamson was 2-4 with a run batted in. while Brady Jeffcoat added a 3-3 effort while driving in 2.

Freshman Davis Wright improved to 4-0 on the season. Maret Drye contributed with a 2-inning Save, his 4^th.

SMC improved to 14-8, 2-0 Region

Sunday’s games never had a chance to get underway with rain settling in early and sticking around all day.

SMC takes the field again Sat-Sun 3/18-19 as it continues Region play by hosting USC-Salkehatchie. Game 1 both days begin at 1:00pm
