
Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader
Game Recaps 3/18/2023
Game 1
SMC began the second weekend of Region play by taking a 7-1 W over USC-Salkehatchie. Trip Brown went 5 innings to earn the Win, making his record 3-1 on the year, while walking 0 batters and striking out 6.
Offensively the Pioneers were led by Rhogue Wallace and Elliott Sanders, both had 2 hits (HR each) and 2 rbi’s.
Game 2
The Pioneers took game 2 on Saturday by a 12-7 score. Ethan Wilson logged 3 hits in 4 at-bats, including a HR, and drove in 4 runs. Dariyan Pendergrass chipped in with 2 hits while Brady Jeffcoat drove in 3.
Freshman Davis Wright improved to 5-0 on the season. Carson Matthews contributed with a 2-inning Save, his 1st on the year.
SMC improved to 16-8, 4-0 in the Region
Game Recaps 3/19/2023
Game 1
SMC jumped on USC-Salkehatchie early, scoring 10 runs in the 1st inning, and then cruised to a 17-4 win over the Indians. Ryan Williamson and Elliott Sanders both had 3-4 efforts at the plate.
Garrett Hodges threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball while striking out 8 to improve his record to 3-1.
Game 2
The Pioneers took game 2 on Saturday by a 15-5 score. Brooks Mauro had a 3-3 day and drove in a trio of runs. Julian Scott added a 2-2 day in the run-rule shortened 5 inning game.
Freshman Amp Phillips was efficient in his 4 innings of work, striking out 4 while only allowing 1 earned run. and improved to 3-0 on the season.
SMC improved to 18-8 overall and 6-0 in Region 10 play.
The win in Game 2 was the 1300th of Head Coach Tim Wallace SMC career, making his career record 1300-488. The win total places Wallace 3rd among Active NJCAA coaches and 7th all-time. With 2 more wins by the Pioneers he will move into the 6th position in the All-time category.
