Tough Weekend for the Pioneers

SMC jumped into the 3rd weekend of Region Ten play hosting USC-Lancaster. Saturday was a tough day as the Pioneers surrendered 2 unearned runs in the 7th inning of game 1 leading to a 4-3 loss in Game 1.
Maret Drye had control issues and dropped to 0-2 on the year.
Game 2 saw the Pioneers fall 11-7 despite the efforts of Dariyan Pendergrass and Julian Scott. DP led off the game with an Inside the park Homerun, the 2nd of his career. He also contributed a double in the contest. Scott’s 2-2 day included triple, his first of the year.
Davis Wright suffered his first loss of the season making his record 5-1.

Sunday’s Game 1 was a crazy affair. The Pioneers found themselves down quickly 9-1 but battled through the game’s middle innings eventually taking a 10-9 lead. SMC actually led entering the 7th inning but defensive miscues opened the door for the Lancers who ended up with a 12-11 win.
Offensively Brady Jeffcoat, Rhogue Wallace and Hunter Fryzowicz all had 3 hits.
Game 2 was a crisp, well-played game that ended as a 4-3 win for the Pioneers. The big blow was a Home Run by Wallace in the 7th (his Region leading 9th) that broke a 3-3 tie.
Greyson Wild threw 2 innings of 1-hit ball to pick up the win, evening his record at 1-1 on the season.
The Pioneers are currently 19-11 overall and 7-3 in Region Ten
