Pioneers Take Fifth at the Inaugural Brevard XC Classic

Brevard, N.C. – The Spartanburg Methodist College men's cross country team finished fifth at the Inaugural Brevard XC Classic on Saturday with a gap of 1:36.4 among its top five finishers. 

The Pioneers landed five runners in the top 30, two of which were in the top 25. Head Coach Peyton Shelton noted the team average was an improvment of 10 seconds from the season opener in a tough course. Milligan, who is the defending national champion, had the top nine finishers in the race including the reigning national runner of the week Bryn Woodall, who covered the 8k course in 24:41.1.

The first runner across the finish line in Luke Kochanowicz, who clocked a time of 29:23.1 for 21st place honors. Behind him was Dylan Seppala, who made 1:44.6 step of improvement from the season opener with a time of 30:14.2 in 25th. The third and fourth runners for the Pioneers were Caleb Williams and Andre Kelly III, respectively who finished in 30:25 (26th) and 30:29.6 (27th), respectively. 

Also for SMC were Omarion Ocampo-Rios (30th, 30:58.5), Ryan Hunter (31st, 31:02.2), Marc Mixtega (35th, 31:56.2), Steven Strange (56th, 32:07), Nolan Vrooman (60th, 33:41), Wilson McClinton (63rd, 37:11.3), Calvin Kowalke (64th, 40:04) and Roman Inglis (65th, 40:35.3).
