
Nationally-Ranked Tennessee Wesleyan Defeats SMC, 14-5
Athens, Tenn. – Host No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan plated 12 runs in the first three innings en route to a 14-5 win over Spartanburg Methodist College on Friday.
Tennessee Wesleyan (33-10) recorded 15 hits, with eight different players tallying at least one. Josh Shelly and Kolton Reynolds each had three hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored in the victory. TWU used six different pitchers, with starter Cameron Goffar going four innings to earn the win and remain undefeated at 4-0.
Spartanburg Methodist College (17-25) was led by a three-hit performance from leadoff batter Leo Lopez. Chance Greene contributed two hits and two RBIs in the loss for the Pioneers. SMC used four pitchers, with starter Tyler Davis taking the loss and dropping to 0-4.
A two-run home run by Greene in the second inning briefly gave SMC a 2-1 lead before TWU responded with 11 unanswered runs on its way to the win.
Next, SMC will travel to Georgia Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, Georgia, to face the host Grizzlies and Carolina (N.C.) as part of the CAC Showdown on Friday, April 18, and Saturday, April 19.
