
SMC Women's Track and Field Wins First Conference Title in School NAIA History
Miramar, Fla. - Led by four individual titles and a runner-up performance by Sophia Outhous, the Spartanburg Methodist College women's track and field team became the first program in the inaugural year of NAIA participation to win a conference title as the Pioneers claimed the 2025 CAC Women's Track and Field Championship on Monday.
The Pioneers tallied 162 points from five event victories. Haskell Indian Nations University (Kansas) placed second with 93 points, while host Florida National (77 points) and Florida College (54 points) rounded out the team standings.
The sophomore from Irmo, South Carolina, won the 800m (2:29.04), 1500m (5:19.45), 400m hurdles (1:18.22), and 3000m steeplechase (13:14.45), and finished second in the 5000m (21:33.31).
Teammate and fellow sophomore Polly Addington won the 400m (1:04.00), placed third in the 3000m steeplechase, and finished sixth in the 1500m.
The Pioneers also picked up key points in the 100m and 200m events, with Da'Sani Kinlaw, Diamond Croft, and Tierrany Jeter finishing third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Kinlaw also placed third in both the 400m and 400m hurdles for SMC.
In the distance events, Averi Vance finished third in the 5000m run and fourth in the 3000m steeplechase.
In the field events, Lily Pryor led the way with a pair of fourth-place finishes in the shot put and discus. Anna Altman finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 58-6 (17.84m).
In the relays, the team of Bella Shields, Anna Altman, Diamond Croft, and Tierrany Jeter placed third in the 4x400m relay.
The Pioneers' Head Coach Peyton Shelton earned the CAC Coach of the Year award. Kinlaw was named to the conference's Champion of Character Team.
