SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The visiting Columbia Koalas shot 63% from the field in the final 20 minutes to defeat the Spartanburg Methodist College men's basketball team, 83-79 on Saturday afternoon.
The Koalas (9-5) were led by a 23-point game by Nakia Johnson, who went 7-for-7 from the field and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line to lead Columbia. Kendall Brasfield and Thomas Whitley had 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Spartanburg Methodist College (3-9) was led by Richard Rojas, who had a game-high 25 points, making 11 of 18 shots from the field. He was joined in double figures by Bryan Bayonne, and Kelton Teasley, who had 15 and 10 points, respectively.
The nine losses for SMC have been average of 5.4 points per game. Bayonne and Teasley had eight and seven rebounds, respectively. In the loss, SMC made just one 3-pointer on the afternoon compared to nine for Columbia.
SMC will end 2024 with an exhibition game on December 28 at UNC-Wilmington on December 28 at 2 p.m. in Wilmington, N.C.
