SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Playing their third game in five days, the Spartanburg Methodist College men's basketball team dropped a 99-93 decision to Life University on Monday evening.
Life University (15-4) shot 51.6% from the field on its way to the win. Chaze Harris scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Eagles, who led 32:28 in the contest. Tyreke Johnson added 27, Cortez Johnson and Dara Olonade had 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Spartanburg Methodist College (6-11) also had four players in the contest. Bryan Bayonne had 27 points to lead the Pioneers. He was joined in double figures by DeAnthony Ross, who had 21, Kelton Teasley and Isaac Gray had 14 and 12 points, respectively. The Pioneer bench outscored the Eagles, 39-20 in the loss.
A 16-2 spurt towards the end of the first half put Life University ahead for the rest of the contest. After falling behind as much as 21, SMC mounted a comeback and managed to make it a four-point game, 97-93, with :16 to go.
Next, SMC will host Morris College on Monday, February 3 at 7 p.m. as part of a men's/women's basketball doubleheader at Bridges Arena.
