SMC Volleyball Earns 2024 AVCA Team Academic Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Spartanburg Methodist College volleyball has been named a recipient of the 2024 AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced recently.
“I am so proud of these young women I have the privilege of coaching,” said head coach Makayla Holcombe. “I am also very appreciative of the support from our academic advisors and professors, who dedicate much of their time ensure all student-athletes are successful. Each of our student-athletes have worked hard to achieve this honor and I can’t wait to see what great things we continue do in our future.”
This marks the first time in program history the team has received this honor since the award was initiated during the 1992-93 academic year. The AVCA honors volleyball programs who have maintained a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 or better.
SMC was the lone program in NJCAA Region 10 to be recognized.
Fans can get their first glimpse of the 2024 Pioneer squad as the program makes the transition to NAIA on August 10 in a scrimmage against the alumni at Bridges Arena at 2 p.m.
