
SMC Volleyball Takes Down Carolina in Five
Winston Salem, N.C. – For the eighth time on the season, the Spartanburg Methodist College volleyball saw its match decided in the fifth season. On Tuesday night, the Pioneers came away with a 25-21, 25-11, 17-25, 18-25, 15-9 win over host Carolina (N.C.).
A dominating performance in the fifth set by the visiting Pioneers disrupted the comeback hopes for the host Bruins. In the fifth set, SMC had 10 kills without a hitting error en route to a .769 hitting percentage. Leading the attack was Aurora Aho, who had four of her kills en route to a double double with 14 kills and 10 digs.
SMC started the final set on a 6-1 run with two kills by Makinnley Smart. The Bruins cut the deficit to three, 9-6 but Aho brought the Pioneers back with her third kill of the set to spark a 6-1 run to close out the match.
For the match, SMC posted a .294 hitting percentage – its second highest of the season. The Pioneers also had eight service aces to go along with 10 blocks in the win. Smart and Brantlie Price added 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Setters Tristan Craine and Brook Noe ahd 29 and 18 assists, respectively and libero Hana Vucinic had 13 digs. Also contributing to the winning efforts was Braelynn Brewington, who had two block solos and thre block assists.
