
SMC Volleyball Coach Makayla Holcombe Receives AVCA 30 Under Thirty Award
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Spartanburg Methodist College head volleyball coach Makayla Holcombe has been selected a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association 30 Under Thirty Award.
Holcombe is in her second season as the head indoor and beach volleyball coach at Spartanburg Methodist College. In her first season, in 2023, she led the indoor squad of the Pioneers to an undefeated mark in conference play en route to NJCAA Region 10 Coach of the Year honors. Prior to joining the staff at SMC, she was an assistant coach at Columbia International University (2021-23), a graduate assistant coach at Keiser (2019-21) and a volunteer assistant at Chowan (2018-19).
The Thirty Under 30 honors program recognizes up-and-coming coaches in these different sectors of the sport who serve in a range of roles, from head coach to volunteer assistant to club director. Each of this year's recipients had to be age 30 or under as of Dec. 31, 2023, to qualify for the award.
