Spartanburg, S.C. – Spartanburg Methodist College volleyball fell in five sets to visiting Bob Jones University on Wednesday night, 18-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-9. The Pioneers took the first two sets before the Bruins came back to win the next three for the victory. SMC hit .210 in the first two sets and held BJU to a .058 clip for the early advantage.
SMC (14-16) had three players record double digit kills, including Brantlie Price who had a double double with a team-best 12 kills and 13 digs. Kendall Meinders and Makinnley Smart added 11 and 10 kills. Aurora Aho served up a team-best five service aces.
Bob Jones (21-10) was led by a 20-kill effort from Hannah Goodwin to go along with 16 more kills from Faith Blalock, who also had 13 digs for a double double to go along with three service aces. Anne Lloyd added a match-high 15 digs for the Bruins. BJU came back to hit .194 in the final three sets as the Pioneers managed a .163 clip.
The Pioneers entered the match having won 14 of its last 15 matches on its home court dating back to last season before the loss on Wednesday night.
Next, SMC will face Brenau (Thurs., 6:30 p.m.) and Life (Fri., 6 p.m.).
