MARIETTA, Ga. – The Spartanburg Methodist College men's soccer team dropped a 9-0 decision to host Life University on Sunday afternoon.
Life (1-0-0) scored five goals in the first 45 minutes and four more in the final 45 minutes. A pair of Running Eagles, Wilfred Tchoupa Kandem and Thomas Rodella recorded hat tricks in the win in the season opener. Tchoupa Kandem also was involved in a pair of assists and Rodella added an assist to his efforts.
SMC (0-2-1) had five shots with Ossian Lindberg-Haak recording a pair in the loss.
The Pioneers sought to take control of the contest in the opening minutes as they set up a corner kick in the 7th minute. Sam Avram had a shot blocked in the ninth minute by the Running Eagles defense.
Life got on the scoreboard on a counterattack in the 9th minute for its first goal of the contest. Then, Lindberg-Haak nearly had the equalizer with a shot that sailed high. Trailing 3-0 later in the half, SMC got its first shot on goal when a David Martinez shot was saved by Life goalkeeper Max Davila.
Next, Spartanburg Methodist College will return home to face Brewton-Parker on Friday, August 30 at 2 p.m. at Nash Soccer Field.
