Laurinburg, N.C. – The Spartanburg Methodist College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to host St. Andrews (N.C.) on Tuesday afternoon.
The Knights (2-2) scored :10 into the contest as Nicolo Lgi connected with Tomas Canale for the early lead.
The Pioneers (1-3-1) were able to record a 12-11 advantage in shots with a team-best three by Adrian Johnson.
Down 1-0 early in the contest, Johnson, twice nearly had the equalizer in the first 45 minutes that was saved by goalkeeper Cristobal Romero. In the second half, SMC continued to put pressure on the Knights' defense.
Back-to-back shots by Brandon Porras and Will Waters in the 57th and 58th minute were unable to find itself in the back of the net as Romero picked up two more saves.
St. Andrews added to its lead when Leon Odongo scored in the 86th minute for the final margin.
It will be a quick turaround for SMC as they will host Toccoa Falls on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Nash Soccer Field.
