Takoma Park, Md. – The Spartanburg Methodist College men's soccer team scored twice in the final eight minutes to tie Washington Adventist at 3 on Saturday evening.
The Pioneers (4-8-2) went ahead in the sixth minute when Clayton Dufur scored his first goal of the season. Dufur is the ninth-different goal scorer on the season for Spartanburg Methodist College.
The host Shock (3-3-4) came back with a three goals to take a 3-1 lead.
A resilient SMC squad came back to tie it in the final eight minutes. First, Brandon Porras scored his third goal of the week. Then, the Pioneers tied the contest at 3 when Sebastian Puyo scored.
"Our guys have so much heart and grit," said SMC head coach Doug Smith. "We are excited that the direction we are going."
The Pioneers will wrap up the weekend with a neutral-site contest on Sunday at 8 p.m. against Fisher.
