SMC Athletics Hires Danny Kambel as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Communications
Spartanburg, SC – Spartanburg Methodist College athletic director Megan Aiello today announced the hiring of Danny Kambel as the first, full-time assistant athletic director for sports communications.
“We are thrilled that Danny will be joining the athletic staff here at SMC. His extensive background as a sports information director is invaluable as we make the transition to NAIA,” Aiello said. “Danny’s passion and knowledge will be a tremendous asset for SMC, our coaches, and our student-athletes.”
Kambel comes to Spartanburg Methodist College from the College of Idaho, where he has been the Yotes Director of Sports Communications since 2022. During his time at Idaho, Kambel oversaw all aspects of strategic communication, both internally and externally, for the Yotes athletic department. This included the development, execution, and management of department-wide communication, media relations plans and strategies, and social media accounts. In addition, Kambel oversaw the nominations for College Sports Communicators and NAIA Academic awards, as well as sport-specific academic accolades.
“I’m extremely excited to be at Spartanburg Methodist,” said Kambel. “Megan Aiello and the rest of SMC have worked hard to elevate this athletic department to afford me this opportunity. Along with my wife, we are happy to be in this role as a part of the SMC family and be at a place where we can consider it a second home.”
Prior to joining the Yotes staff, Kambel served as the Sports Information Director at Pacific University for four years. While at Pacific, he was named the school's Dedication to Students Award recipient in 2019. Kambel has also served as Sports Information Director at LeTourneau
University, where he was recognized as the American Southwest Conference Sports Information Director of the Year in 2016. In addition, Kambel has served as a Sports Information Director at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Texas A&M University-Commerce, and a Sports Information consultant at Evergreen State University and the University of the Pacific.
Kambel earned an Associate of Applied Science in Sport and Fitness Management from Columbus State Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Toledo.
