SPARTANBURG, SC., Men's Basketball opened the season with a 80-75 win last night over Action Sports Academy. The two teams were tied at the half at 38-38, the game remained close throughout until SMC took a eight point lead late and held off a late charge by ASA.
Eleven Pioneers scored in the contest with Malik Gaffney (Gaffney, SC / Blacksburg High) leading the way with 21 points and five three pointers. Tj Sheppard (North Augusta, SC / North Augusta High) and Marquise Simuel (Columbia, SC / AC Flora High) each added 19pts. SMC shot 19-25 from the free throw line on the night.
The Pioneers are back in action tonight at 7:00pm against 22 Feet Academy.
