SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Spartanburg Methodist College women's basketball team got an all-around team effort in an 80-72 win over Morris College on Monday night.
Four Pioneers (7-12, 3-3 CAC) scored in double figures – Destiny Middleton (18), JaiDah Liebert (17), Mia Hansen (15) and Najah Gilliam (11) – in the win to complement three teammates – Latavius Wilson, Krystal Johnson and Emiya Gallman – who each had 10 rebounds in the win.
The Hornets (1-17, 0-4 CAC) were paced by a game-high 21 points from Damani Wilson, who went 8-for-21 from the field in the loss.
The two teams were tied at 8 to begin the contest until a 6-1 spurt to end the quarter by the host Pioneers put SMC ahead for nearly the rest of the contest. To start the second half, the visitors tied the game for the third time at 32. A 9-2 run by the Pioneers ended the comeback hopes and put SMC ahead for the rest of the contest.
Next, SMC will travel to Boston on Friday to face Washington Adventist at noon for another CAC matchup. Then, they will face host Fisher on Saturday at noon to wrap up the weekend.
