HIALEAH, Fla. – The Spartanburg Methodist College women's soccer team saw its seven-match winning streak end in a 3-0 loss to Florida National on Friday morning.
The Pioneers (7-2, 2-1 CAC) surrendered three first half goals in the loss to the Conquistadors, who were playing just their third match of the season.
Florida National (1-3, 1-0 CAC) went ahead early when Bethania Pires da Cruz scored in the sixth minute after a corner kick. Just a little over eight minutes later, Gabriela Bortolon Brito added to the lead.
In the 23rd minute, the Pioneers challenged the FNU defense with a pair of shots as a Camila Moscoso shot went wide and a shot by Camden Brooks was scooped up by the Conquistadors goalkeeper Hailey Llijin, who recorded the shutout.
Later in the half, in the 40th minute, Delmis Reyes Amaya added the third goal of the half for FNU.
The second half saw the Pioneers record 12 shots – three of which were on goal as they were kept off the scoreboard.
Next, SMC will host Limestone in a JV contest on Friday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. and Pfeiffer on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.
