
SMC Dominates Contest in 5-1 Win Over Florida College

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Spartanburg Methodist College controlled possession for most of the contest with three goals in the first half and two more in the second half en route to a 5-1 win over Florida College on Thursday afternoon.
The Pioneers (10-3-1), who raised their record to 5-0 at Nash Soccer Field, had five-different goal scorers in the win. The ten wins are the most by a SMC team since they recorded 11 in 2022.
The first goal scorer was Camila Moscoso in the sixth minute, followed by a goal by CJ Hawkins in the 21stminute. Then, later in the half, Caroline Taylor scored the third goal in the first half.
The Falcons (0-12-1) got its lone goal in the contest when Paula Rincon Carrillo scored in the 49th minute to make it a 3-1 game.
SMC got back on the scoreboard when Kaylee Damsen scored in the 61st minute. The fifth goal came when Andrea Tapia successfully converted a penalty kick in the 67th minute.
Pioneer goalkeepers Ava Wilson and Alexia Johnson made nine saves in the winning effort. Wilson had seven saves in 77:50 of action before Johnson came off the bench to make a pair of saves in the win.
Next, SMC will host nearby rival Bob Jones University on Saturday at 10 a.m. to wrap p the regular season portion of the schedule.
