Mount Vernon, Ga. – The Hawkins sisters on the Spartanburg Methodist College women's soccer helped propel the visiting Pioneers to a 1-0 win over Brewton-Parker College on Saturday night.
SMC (2-1) scored its lone goal on the night as the Pioneers' Logan Harvin started a counterattack after taking possession of the ball away from the Barons. She quickly found Johana Martinez, who moved the ball down the pitch and connected with CJ Hawkins, who fired a shot that bounced off the hands of the BPC goalkeeper. Quickly on the spot was sister, Addie Hawkins for the goal. The goal for Addie Hawkins is her third of the week.
For the game, the Pioneers outshot the host Barons by a 20-2 margin with 10 shots on goal for SMC to just one by BPC. CJ Hawkins had nine shots – seven on goal to lead the attack.
Head Coach Kyle Campbell was quick to praise his defense in the win. "It was a great defensive effort from the back line and Ava Wilson in goal." He also was happy with the overall play throughout the midfield. "We have been working hard in training on our possession and it showed tonight with controlling the game," said Campbell.
Wilson was quick to praise her teammates after her first collegiate shutout. "I am very pleased with the composure of our defense."
Next, on Tuesday, SMC will travel to the campus of Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia for a neutral-site matchup against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College at 2 p.m.
