Talladega, Ala. - Friday's women's soccer match between Spartanburg Methodist College and Talladega ended in a 1-1 tie.
Host Talladega's Janelly Barco scored the first goal of the match unassisted just 4:13 into the first half. The Pioneers managed to tie it when Caitlin Lagos scored a penalty kick goal at the 21:45 mark.
Neither team was able to get the go-ahead goal for the remainder of the contest as both goalkeepers made key saves throughout the match to prevent either team from gaining a decisive advantage.
The reigning CAC Defensive Player of the Week and SMC goalkeeper Ava Wilson and Talladega goalkeeper Natalie Need each had three saves in the contest. Wilson saved a shot by Talladega's Barco at 28:34 and Need saved a shot by Spartanburg's Lagos at 27:39, preventing either side from pulling ahead.
The second half saw the Pioneers nearly have the game winner on a shot by CJ Hawkins as Need made a crucial save to preserve the tie.
With the tie, SMC is now 9-3-1 on the season; whereas Talladega is now 3-6-1.
