SMC Women's Soccer opens season with 6-3 win

Millidgeville, GA: The Spartanburg Methodist College Lady Pioneers (1-0) opened the season on the road against Georgia Military College last week. Despite the temperature at 97 when the game started the ladies were able to grind out a 6-3 win. 

Freshman Madison Salters from Columbia, SC opened the scoring at the seven minute mark assisted by fellow freshman Hope Smith from Woodruff, SC. Smith scored at the nine minute mark off a corner kick assisted by freshman Kayla Walker from Lexington, SC.

Georgia Military scored with one minute left in the half. SMC led 2-1 at half time.

The Lady Pioneers came out strong the second half with three goals in the first 12 minutes of the half. Freshman Kayla McMillian scored at the 51st minute. Freshman Sara Dorsett from Travelers Rest, SC  scored the next two at the 53rd and 57th minute. Freshman Lexi Garcia from Greenville,SC had two of the assist and Kayla Walker added her second assist  of the game. Sophomore Kaitlin Robins from Gilbert, SC finish the scoring at the 61st minute for SMC with an assist from sophomore Karsyn Shehan of Boiling Springs, SC.

Georgia Military scored two late goals to make the final 6-3. Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Brooks had six saves
