REGION X CHAMPIONS!!

REGION X CHAMPIONS!!

LOUISBURG, NC- The 19th ranked Lady Pioneers (18-1) have been on a roll all season long and earned the number one seed with a 11-1 record in Region X play.

SMC hoped to continue their strong play against Cape Fear Community College in the title match, Cape Fear is the only team to defeat the Pioneers this season. The #1 seed Pioneers advanced to the title match after their semi-final win yesterday over #5 USC Salkehatchie 7-0 while #2 Cape Fear defeated #3 Louisburg College.

SMC took a 1-0 lead mid way through the first half on a 30 yard blast from Kayla Walker , her 12th on the season. The Lady Pioneers would take that lead into the half and it would remain that way until Sara Dorsett  found the back of the net on a Ciera Smith assist to make the score 2-0.  Cape Fear made the score 2-1 late in the contest, only the 14th goal all season given up by SMC. The Pioneers have outscored their opponents 104-14 in 19 matches this season.

With the Region X Tournament Championship the Pioneers have earned the right to host Harford Community College (13-3-1) in the District L Championship game next weekend.

Exact details of the match will be annouced tommorrow.
