Women's Soccer wins overtime thriller

Women's Soccer wins overtime thriller

Louisburg, NC- The Pioneer Women's Soccer team traveled to Louisburg College to play for the second straight day.  The ladies came out flat and conceded a goal one minute into the game, but quickly settled down and were able to equalize the contest 1-1 at the 27th minute on a goal from Sara Dorsett (Travelers Rest, SC). The goal was a volley of a cross from Kacee Merritt (Cayce, SC). The second half started like the first as Louisburg came out strong and scored at the five minute mark to take a 2-1 lead. Sara Dorsett assisted SMC's second goal with a cross to Kayla McMillian (Spartanburg, SC) who volleyed it in.  Louisburg took a 3-2 lead with five minutes to play. The Lady Pioneers did not quit and tied the game when Sara Dorsett scored her second goal of the game assisted by Kayla McMillian with less than two minutes left in regulation. The game went to overtime. In the first minute Kacee Merritt went in on a breakaway and was fouled in the penalty area. Kayla Walker (Lexington, SC) scored on the penalty kick to win the game.

SMC improves to 4-0 on the season and will travel to Cape Fear Community College on Thursday
